What is a thesis statement? It's a statement that presents your research topic and the framework for how you think about your research. Your thesis statement will guide your work towards completing your thesis or dissertation.
What is this site? Eventually you're going to have to defend your thesis. So exactly how confident are you?
IsMyThesisHotOrNot.com lets you test it out, or comment on other thesis statements completely anonymously. The idea for this site came from an article on the ProfHacker Blog. Check them out!

Measuring Science Teachers' Strategic Knowledge: Domain-Specific or Domain-General? The development of reliable and valid measures of science teacher knowledge is essential for teacher education program evaluation purposes. A particular challenge to this effort lies in the fact that these programs serve pre-service teachers who have a range of disciplinary specialties and teaching areas (e.g., biology, chemistry, physics, etc.). Is it best to measure science teachers' strategic knowledge within an individuals’ area of science specialty, or can this be measured domain-generally for the sciences? In this dissertation, I investigate this question by developing a new domain-specific (physics) measure of science teacher knowledge. I then conduct an experiment in which I randomly administer (pre and post-semesters’ instruction) a domain-general measure or the new parallel domain-specific measure to individuals within a population of pre-service science teachers. I also observe the teaching practices of a subset of individuals in order to contribute to a validity argument for interpretations resulting from these measures. The empirical evidence gathered will serve to further develop an existing measure of science teacher knowledge—the Flexible Application of Student-Centered Instruction instrument—and will contribute to our theoretical understanding about a specific construct of teacher knowledge: pedagogical content knowledge (PCK; Shulman, 1986).

NOT by Kate at April 16, 2010, 6:43 pm Is this a thesis statement or the whole thesis? Wow.
NOT by grendel at April 19, 2010, 7:34 am The whole proposal hinges on the word "best", which is never unpacked even one iota (although clearly not for lack of space).

NOT by Anonymous at May 22, 2010, 12:34 am This is an paragraph, not a thesis. A thesis makes a claim in a clear, concise, and complete sentence or two. The second sentence of your paragraph is a working thesis, though it could use tweaking. Try again.
